It all begins the moment you bring the turkey and the bags of groceries home and start to prepare the big feast. Planes are met and cars arrive, filled with family members and maybe a few extra guests. The laughter and conversations are sometimes loud, everyone anticipating the big feast -- it's a time for family, friends, fun, and reflection on one's blessings. Our Thanksgiving prayer for each of you is a day filled with these memory-building moments that far over shadow the feast of delicious, healthful food to come.
As a person with diabetes, it's important that you savor the fellowship of the day, keeping the food in proper perspective. The menu we have chosen contains a lot of food and we as diabetics must be realistic, adhering to our meal plan, counting the carbohydrates and calories. If you have questions, consult with your health-care-team about any changes in medication before the big day so that you can partake and still keep your blood glucose levels under control.
