Welcome to www.diabetic-lifestyle.com and www.diabetic-recipes.com our two award winning sites for those of us with diabetes and for their families and friends. We thank all of you who are loyal to our sites and who continue to educate yourselves about diabetes. The latest news from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that nearly 8% of the U.S. population currently has diabetes. This affects nearly 24 million people an increase of more than 3 million in approximately two years. In addition another 57 million people are estimated to have pre-diabetes. No wonder so many people come to our sites each month. Thank you for your continued interest.

Summer brings hot weather and many outdoor parties. Make sure you look at the Entertaining section of the site for menu ideas for barbecues, meals for the 4th, and special birthday meals, wedding parties, family gatherings, and more. Also summer means traveling. There are articles on dealing with time changes and travel needs in the What’s Hot and Travel sections. We have added more info in the introduction of the July Health Updates section. Travel is no longer as we remember it from times when planes were on time and if you were lucky no one sat in the middle seat. Do read what you need with you on the plane and how to avoid being stuck without food and meds if your flight is delayed or canceled. In the past 2 months I have traveled to 5 cities and hopefully what I learned will help you too.

Some of you have written and complimented us about out new book, The Cleveland Clinic Healthy Heart Lifestyle and Cookbook published by Broadway Books. You can look at the book by going to our bookstore which will connect you to Amaxon.com. As you know those of us with diabetes are at a significantly higher risk for developing heart disease than people without diabetes which is why we wrote the book. Cleveland Clinic has been rated as the best cardiovascular hospital as rated by U.S News and World Report for the last 14 plus years so we were proud when they asked us to collaborate with them. As we do each month, we wish you good health and bon appetite.
